The Camouflage Specialist of the Tapajós

Meet the L141 Ghost Pleco (also known as Ancistomus snethlageae), a master of subtlety and texture. Hailing from the fast-flowing waters of the Rio Tapajós in Brazil, this pleco is perfect for the hobbyist who appreciates intricate patterns and "hidden gems." With its smoky grey-to-olive base and delicate, darker mottling, the Ghost Pleco earns its name by blending seamlessly into driftwood and shadows—until it catches the light and reveals its stunning, understated detail.

Why You’ll Love the L141 Ghost

Unique Patterning: Their "ghostly" marbled appearance acts as natural camouflage, making them a fascinating species to spot and observe in a well-decorated tank.

Compact Size: Topping out at around 5 to 6 inches, they are ideal for medium-sized aquariums where larger plecos would be too cramped.

Low Aggression: While they can be territorial over their favorite cave, they are generally peaceful and make excellent neighbors for a wide variety of tropical fish.

Hardy & Resilient: Once acclimated, the L141 is a robust survivor that adds a sense of wild Amazonian authenticity to your hardscape.

Pro-Tips for a Happy Ghost

The L141 is more of a carnivorous leaner than some other plecos. While they will rasp on driftwood and eat some algae, their diet should be anchored by high-protein sinking pellets, frozen bloodworms, or brine shrimp. They thrive in warmer water with high dissolved oxygen levels, so ensure your filter provides plenty of surface agitation.

Aquarist Note: The L141 is a "cave seeker." To see them at their most comfortable, provide several ceramic pipes or narrow driftwood crevices where they can feel secure during the day.
