The L004 Angelicus Pleco
The Heavenly Spotted Gem of the Rio Tocantins
Elevate your aquarium to celestial heights with the L004 Angelicus Pleco (Hypancistrus sp.). Originating from the rocky, fast-flowing waters of the Rio Tocantins in Brazil, this smaller Hypancistrus is a masterclass in understated elegance. Its body is a canvas of smoky grey or deep charcoal, perfectly set with a dense, shimmering dusting of bright, starry-white polka dots—an aesthetic that earns its angelic name.
Why You’ll Love the Angelicus Pleco
Stunning High-Contrast Pattern: The intricate, starry pattern provides a clean, visual break in any tank, especially when resting on dark wood or stones.
The Ideal Small Species: Maxing out at a compact 4.5 to 5 inches, they are perfect for community tanks where larger plecos would outgrow their home.
Diligent Bottom Dweller: While not a significant algae consumer, they are active scavengers that diligently clean the substrate of leftover food and biofilm.
Hardy & Adaptable: Once established and acclimated to their required current, they are robust, long-lived companions.

Pro-Tips for a Happy Angelicus
The L004 is primarily a carnivore leaning omnivore. While they will consume some algae, their diet must be anchored by high-protein sinking pellets, frozen bloodworms, or mysis shrimp. To see them thrive, simulate their native environment with heavy current and high oxygen levels. Provide numerous caves, ceramic tubes, or gaps in rockwork—as Hypancistrus species rely heavily on feeling secure in a defined territory.
Aquarist Note: While peaceful, Angelicus Plecos are "cave-competitive." Ensure you have more caves than you have plecos (e.g., three caves for two plecos) to prevent territorial disputes among this otherwise docile species.
