The Reticulated Rarity from the Rio Guaporé
Introduce a breathtaking highlight of complex design to your aquarium with the Sterba's Corydora (Corydoras sterbai), a highly coveted and visually spectacular small catfish. While its specific origin is noted by some sources, this Cory is a masterpiece of the nanoworld, immediately recognizable by its unparalleled, intricate, dark, maze-like tapestry of fine lines that glows with a hypnotic complexity. This striking "worm-line" reticulation is so dense and continuous that it creates a stunning visual labyrinth against its lighter body, accented by dynamic, spotted fins.
Why You’ll Love the Sterba's Corydora
Exceptional "Maze" Aesthetics: Their stark, high-contrast armor-like plating features a deep, solid maze-like charcoal on a flawless, translucent light golden-tan body which glows with a vibrant, metallic, blue-green sheen on its lower body and cheek.
Outgoing & Active: Unlike some reclusive species, established Sterba's Corydoras are surprisingly active and outgoing during the day, making them a joy to observe.
Relentless Substrate Scavenger: As a diligent bottom-dweller, they spend their day actively patrolling the substrate for biofilm, leftover food, and detritus, helping to keep your tank clean.
Master of the School: Watching a established group (shoal) of 6–10 interaction, complete with dynamic schooling and synchronized movement, is a dynamic, rewarding experience.

Pro-Tips for a Happy Sterba's
The absolute most critical element for the Sterba's Corydora is water parameters. To see their maximum color and preserve their delicate barbels, simulate their native environment with very soft, highly acidic blackwater. We highly recommend using a RO/DI water system and incorporating driftwood and peat moss to manage their pH. Provide numerous caves, ceramic tubes, or gaps in robust rockwork—as Corydoras species rely heavily on feeling secure in a defined territory.
Aquarist Note: While peaceful, mature males can be "territorially pushy" towards other male Corys, especially over favored caves. For smaller tanks (under 70 Litres), it is best to keep a single male or an unsexed group until a established pairing is formed.
