A Radiant Splash of Saffron for the Shoal
Introduce one of the most vibrant and visually stunning small catfish to your aquarium with the Venezuelan Orange Cory (Corydoras venezuelanus), frequently celebrated in the UK by its other common name, the Orange Laser Cory. Hailing from the clear, slow-moving streams and complex, leaf-littered environments of the Rio Tuy and Rio Meta basins in Venezuela, this cory is a masterpiece of the nanoworld. Its defining feature is an unparalleled, luminous, searing saffron-to-sunkist orange hue that washes across its entire body and glows with an almost neon intensity. This intense color is further dramatically contrasted by a deep, dark charcoal 'laser' line that runs perfectly through its body, making it a living jewel that demands attention.
Why You’ll Love the Venezuelan Orange Cory
Iconic & Luminous Aesthetics: Their stark, solid neon-orange-on-charcoal "Laser" pattern is unique in the freshwater hobby and provides dramatic, brilliant contrast against both dark wood and light substrate.
Master of the School: Watching a coordinated school, or ‘shoal,’ of 6–10 interaction, flash their intense, glowing colors, and change direction is a dynamic, rewarding experience.
Tireless Janitor Force: These are tireless bottom-dwelling scavengers, constantly in motion, sifting through sand and gravel for leftover food and detritus, helping to keep your tank clean.
Outgoing & Active Personality: Unlike some reclusive species, established Venezuelan Orange Corys are surprisingly active and outgoing during the day, making them a joy to observe.

Pro-Tips for a Happy Orange Cory
The absolute most critical element for the Venezuelan Orange Cory is water parameters. To see their maximum, radiant orange glow, simulate their native environment with very soft, highly acidic blackwater. We highly recommend using a RO/DI water system and incorporating driftwood and peat moss to manage their pH. Provide numerous caves, ceramic tubes, or gaps in rockwork—as Corydoras species rely heavily on feeling secure in a defined territory. Simulating their native environment with heavy current and high oxygen levels is crucial.
Aquarist Note: While peaceful, Orange Corys are "bottom-competitive". Ensure you have more floor space and multiple suitable caves than you have plecos (e.g., three caves for two corys) to prevent territorial disputes among this otherwise docile species.
